I have a toshiba satellite laptop and the drivers are outdated. Where on the internet can I find driver updates, the scan and the updates all free without having to register for anything and without license keys? I can find the scans but not how to update my drivers. its for windows xp.
Try the Toshiba website, my friend. Sorry, but you didn't indicate which specific Toshiba Satellite laptop you have or I'd have looked for a direct link to the relevant page for you.
Most computers have a limited time for updated drivers. You may be able to get a video update from whoever your video chip maker is, (hope its either ATI or Nvidia as Intel just plain sucks). As for an audio driver, Realtek does very regular updates as does VIA. LAN isn't that critical, but wireless NICs can be difficult. By checking manually with the chip makers, you avoid any of the silly 'Driver Search' crap that you seem to have been sucked into. None of the chip makers I have mentioned above charge for their drivers, nor do they need any type of registration keys. Please be aware that many laptops do not get much support beyond the initial year of life.
Good luck.
The idea and concept of regularly updating driversfree driver updates is somewhat misleading. Depending on who you speak to, you will often get many answers as to when and why you should update drivers to a newer version.
In general, it is not necessary to update drivers on a regular basis. The only real reason would be to resolve a problem that you are experiencing with a particular piece of hardware, or to gain an additional feature from that hardware (AND if a newer driver version addresses this issue - for example, the wireless function of your laptop may have an updated driver that allows connections to WPA2 encrypted networks).
If and when you do find the need to update your drivers, the best place is often your computer manufacturers website. Such websites will not necessarily tell you which version of the driver you already have, but will usually include a release date and a list of fixes and upgrades that the newer driver provides.
Your computer manufacturer will not always have the latest versions of all drivers, however you can be sure that they have been tested by the manufacturer and are certified for use. The best place to get the latest drivers for your hardware is from the hardware vendors website.
An example would be to updafree driver updateste the driver for your ATI graphics card. The latest version will always be available from the official ATI support website. You should realize that the latest versions are not always associated with the "best" versions of that driver, and you should always think carefully about the reasons as to why you are choosing to update the driver to begin with.
You should *always* avoid tools that promise to give you the latest driver updates for your computer. They are unnecessary and you usually end up with the wrong drivers installed. This could result in a piece of your hardware no longer functioning, or could even go as far as giving you a BSOD ("Blue Screen of Death") when you try to start the laptop, because the driver cannot find or control the hardware that it was expected. Most driver tools also often contain malware, and are just money making scams.
Go to the hardware manufacturers website and download latest version of driver for your os.
Install from there. Or go to...
and select your model.
You can update your drivers automatically:
That way you don't have to handle the task of figuring out what needs to be updated.
