islam moon sightingIs anyone interested in knowing the reason why Islam starts Ramadan with the sighting of a crescent moon?

Answer:
I think you mean the fast of Ramadan. God commanded Muslims in the Qur'an to fast from dawn to sunset during the month called Ramadan (see Qur'an 2:185, 187). The beginning and end of the month is determined by the crescent (2:189) based on the instruction of God's Messenger, on whom be peace.
Why this method and not another is not for us to say but for God and His Messenger to prescribe. However, I find it an efficient method. It is a universally applicable method, and it allows for Ramadan to move through all the seasons. This allows believers to have the pleasure of worshipping God by fasting in all the various seasons: one year in the summer, some years later in the winter."
This will be my first Ramadan since my conversion to Islam and I must admit that I am getting a bit nervous. I am worried that I will find the fasting just too hard. I pray that I will find the strength that I need.Inshaallah.

Moon worship has been practiced in Arabia since 2000 BC. The crescent moon is the most common symbol of this pagan moon worship as far back as 2000 BC.
In Mecca, there was a god named Hubal who was Lord of the Kabah.
This Hubal was a moon god.
One Muslim apologist confessed that the idol of moon god Hubal was placed upon the roof of the Kaba about 400 years before Muhammad. This may in fact be the origin of why the crescent moon is on top of every minaret at the Kaba today and the central symbol of Islam atop of every mosque throughout the world:

The moon is something we use to keep time and nothing else. To those say we worship the moon this is another lie because why we use a crescent instead of a moon, as a symbol. shouldn't we use the moon as a symbol if we worshiped it? The main point is that the crescent wasn't used a symbol in Islam until the Ottoman Turk period during the 16th century.
Then does the Christains worship the sun because they follow a solar calender then?

So I go to a smaller private university. First off, my teacher is a total bimbo. Ok so every kid in my class programs thier formulas in thier calculators b/c our teacher is too big of a ditz to notice. The thing is... I do not cheat. I mean, I probably should because I am like, a C math student... but I really, morally just cant do it. So it really urks me that 3/4 of my class cheats on tests... must be nice. I don't know what to do. I 100% wont cheat... should I tell the teacher that pretty much all the students are taking her for a fool? I guess I am just salty that some kids are willing to cheat and be dishonest and the ones who are truthful and just are the ones who really suffer. What would you do? Have you ever been in a situation like this?

I was in the same situation last year when I took a government class. The professor seemed totally blind. He read his newspaper during every test with his head down. Everyone around me had tiny notecards with their essays written out ahead of time. I saw them cheating on every test. I was always the last to finish but I could not bring myself to cheat. I passed his course with a honest "B".
At the end I was happy I didn't cheat. I didn't have to and you shouldn't either.

This has come up in my Math classes as well, because TI-83's and other calculators can have notes and formulas programmed intmath cheatso them, so I know how you feel. I won't cheat either. I'd rather fail honestly, than pass dishonestly.
If the teacher allows TI-83's, you have to ask yourself, is it cheating to use the calculator to its fullest potential? Teachers should be aware of the technology they allow. If the teacher wanted the calculator to be used only for the four scientific funtions (+ - x / ) then she should have specified that, or not allowed them at all.
If you think the teacher is unaware of the capabilities, ask her about it. Ask her if it's okay to put notes on your calculator, because other students have and you want to verify it's acceptable. If she's okay with it, you shouldn't feel bad about taking advantage of the opportunity.
Don't tell the teacher anything, she must be aware of it, and when you give your final tests you will be the winner, specially if they get a teacher who will not let them copy. ASnyway, in real life when they take up jobs, they'll be kicked out when their boss realies that they know nothing.

You may also mention if she considers it cheating that you believe that there are many students utilizing their calculators in that particular way.
